review 1: A very recent addition to Eric Carle's body of work, the boy in The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse was inspired by artist Franz Marc. Marc was a German abstract artist whose work was banned during the Nazi regime, the era in which Carle attended high school in Germany.Children from diverse backgounds will be able to connect to the artist. Rather than appearing as white, african american, or latino, he appears to represent a little of each i n his skin color. He also has long hair, probably representing the nonconventional and creative standards upheld in his art. Many of the animals illustrated in the paintings are similar to those in Carle's earlier books. They are created from his usual collage and paint media. My favorite is the polka-dotted donkey. The majority a... morelso feature a small amount of paint along the tops of the backgrounds that is thick near the top of the page and fades into the white background as it gets lower. I like this better than Carle's traditional all-white backgrounds.
review 2: Genre: Fiction picture bookAge: early readersCarle created a book that represented the imagination of a young child. From a blue horse to an orange crocodile. I love reading this book to my class. They rated this book with five stars. Its funny because when I give them an activity, such as drawing a horse. Each child use his/her colors that they perceive how a horse from his/her imagination look like. This is a fun book to read. I know this book will be a definite keeper on my book shelf. less
