review 1: I usually enjoy YA, but this was written too young for my taste. I did like the messages from Grandpa to DJ, and the overall message was good. However, I really didn't care for the fact that the book went from the summit of Kilimanjaro to a hotel bed. From what I understand, the descent can be more difficult than the assent, and our three characters had seemingly used up all their fuel getting to the summit. The descent would have been perilous. I guess the author felt DJ had already learned his lesson, so he didn't need to bother with this most important part of a climb.
review 2: During this week I've been read "Between Heaven and Earth",by Eric Walters. David the main character,is given a request by his dead grandfather. In order to fulfill his grandpa's re... morequest, David has to travel across the world to Tanzania, Africa and climb mountain Kilimanjaro. Once David reaches the top of mount Kilimanjaro, he must spread his grandfather's ashes, as his grandfather requested. David struggles in his journey but refuses to quite. He is very determined to reach his goal. The novel's genre fits into adventure. In my opinion, the novel is well written. I like how the idea of having a teen boy travel across the world with a request to fulfill. I also was impressed about the quotes the author used. I felt like they were strong and meaningful. I overall enjoyed reading this novel. I really like David's personality. He is kind yet careful. less
