review 1: I met the author and was so impressed by her, I was determined to read her book. Regardless of this not being my typical genre, I was immediately pulled into the story and had a difficult time putting the book down. The characters were unique and compelling, the story filled with action and conflict, and the romance was extremely satisfying. This is one of those stories that stays with you long after you finish it. I can see myself reading this book again--and I don't usually read a book more than once. This book is good enough to be an exception. I also love that this was a clean read. I can feel comfortable having this book in my bookshelf with me teen daughter in the house. To the author I say, kudos for writing this amazing story, and thank you for sharing it wit... moreh us!
review 2: Not the best YA I've ever read, but it was entertaining and did not bore. I was actually passing the pages eagerly to find out what happens. Allie is spending the summer at her father's summer cottage. She does not wish to be there because the previous year, her little cousin drowned while under her care. She feels guilty even though she almost drowned too. She meets this guy who at first seems sinister and mysterious. Little by little they grow closer and feel a connection between the two. You know upfront that Damian is a good guy but he's hiding a secret. Meanwhile, Allie is dealing with the family dinamics of having a new stepmother and a stepbrother who is a total jerk with her. There's also Brooke, an airhead blonde with kind attitude and Aaron, the stepbrother's friend who is actually the best character in the whole group. If I had to choose, this would be the guy who got the girl. Allie was not very likable, she was mouthing off to her father and Nick (stepbrother) and sometimes to Aaron; she acted this inmature everytime she felt threatened because they were approaching a sensitive theme. Later on, as she dealt with her issues, she seemed to come into her own and her attitude improved. Towards the end of the book there is an incident that had way more violence that I expected, given the initial mildness of the narrative. That part was a big surprise and a real turn in the book. I think that part was not completely solved, so there may be a sequel. less

It was a good storyline, but I just couldn't get into the book. It was too predictable for me.
