review 2: When I first started this on my Kindle, I didn't know if it was a supernatural story or a mystery. It took me a while to figure out it was the latter. Something about it being originally written in Danish made it seem very alien.Wow, what a complicat
... moreed story with many red herrings and many plot reveals. I wish I had read it all in a few long sittings but I started it weeks ago then just picked it up again a few days ago. I fear I didn't remember many of the clues from early on.The story revolves around a famous orphanage where thousands of unwanted Danish children had been placed with new homes. Several characters receive an anonymous and ominous letter prior to the very public celebration of the 60th anniversary of the orphanage. The letters lead to a vast conspiracy involving high levels in the government, police and media and soon several deaths occur. The ending left us with a full explanation, of sorts, but some of it could be open to interpretation. I emerged a little woozy from trying to take it all in.I'd love to discuss this with a Danish colleague I have. I felt like there was a great exposure of the culture and history of Denmark that I couldn't fully appreciate due to my ignorance. less

I only finished it because I wanted to know what finally happens at the end. Way way way too long.

Don't know if I can recommend this book to anyone. I found it confusing and too long..
