review 1: This book was incredibly complex. It went on so long before it revealed the actual mystery that it was hard to keep reading. A story of seven babies in a room at a foundling and that one is the child of a powerful man in the government and the birth is hidden to protect him and how the director of the home and on of her employees cover it up and she adopts said child and then keeps a journal in which she records her fears of the child because her mother was a murderer. Might have been better if shorter and the crimes were better shown earlier in the book. This was a translation as the author is Danish and that is where the story is set.

Difficult to follow. Story line was a great concept, just too hard to hold my attention.

Good plot but suffered from jerky prose, likely the result of translation to English
