review 1: I found this completely hilarious, as did my kids (ages 11, 8 and 6). My 3yo didn't get it. It is a "counting book" but not really. It is better for the older reader independently reading it, or if you can do voices to make sure the zebra and musk ox are clearly defined for the story to be funny.Musk ox and Zebra are part of a counting book, but begin arguing with each other, moving from page to page, etc., thus messing up the counting part of the counting book of other animals. Thus the hilarity begins. We loved the story, and everyone giggled and giggled.
review 2: Fun numbers book using animal characters. The musk ox is annoying and won't stay on his page because he is lonely so he keeps thinking of ways to make the other pages work with the number they... more have on them. Zebra is not happy that the ox is messing up the pages and them skips the zebra page. There are different color and size fonts on each page. The text is surrounded by pictures of animals. The pages go from wild to more subdued in color and tone depending on what is happening on the page or what the animals are doing. The fact that the birds ate the snails on one page may be upsetting to the youngest reader. The ongoing disagreement between the two main characters give the simple book about addition and subtraction the necessary tension to keep the reader engaged in the text and in fact keeps them thinking about other ways the yak might have fixed the page to equal the number written on it. less
