review 1: Another book of the Super Edition Warriors Arc. This time it centers around Crookedkit/paw/jaw/star. Spoilers!Stormkit is just a young kitten in RiverClan who has everything he wants in life: a caring brother, a loving mother, a father who even is deputy and lots of friends. That is, until he breaks his jaw. His mother disowns him because of his deformity and the entire Clan, safe for his father and brother, start looking at him differently. Stomnkit, now named Crookedkit, runs away to see fortune somewhere else, but a mysterious cat starts appearing in his dreams, saying that if he promises to be loyal to his Clan above anything else, he'll one day be the greatest leader the forest has ever know.Crookedkit, just being a child, blindly agrees to this and returns to the Cla... moren. He slowly starts to become respected, and makes some new friends. He starts his training and eventually becomes a warrior. But throughout his life he notices that he is losing many cats who are close to him, and finally starts to understand that there's a catch to his promise. Will he lead or lose all of his loved ones?Definetly one of the better Warriors books that's not the original arc. Not coming close to how good that one was, but still very decent. The overall story is nice, and I like that, instead of having a leader who's a constant do-gooder, we actually get a cat who trained the majority of his life in the Dark Forest (kitty hell) to become leader. The characters are nice and pretty developed. I especially like Crookedstar. Just like Bluestar in her own book in this arc, he goes through many losses. But while she mopes and dopes for at least a chapter after each tradegy, Crookedstar tries to conseal his pain by being sad for a while, but after that, just work, work, work. He's such a strong character and I like him much more than Bluestar for that. It is also explained why he has such a strong connection to his daughter Silverstream in the Original Arc. Some characters are very underdeveloped, tough. I know it's hard to write only one book about one entire Clan and making us remember all cats, but by the end of this book I still couldn't destinguish Timberfur from Rippleclaw or whatever their names where. The pacing is a bit off to me. Some moments went by incredibly fast and seemed to be very random, while others drag for a bit. But that's a minor issue. What else kinda bothered me was one major event in the book: Crookedkit doesn't think the Clan wants him anymore because of his broken jaw and runs away. He comes across a few loners in a barn and builts a new life with them. He helps them raise a litter and hunts for them. He's so happy there, but then he kinda goes back out of nowhere to his Clan. And how he came to that realisation also was a bit fast and strange to me. I honestly wouldn't have minded if he stayed with those loners for a bit longer, they where pretty interesting and there's only like 2 chapters dedicated to them. But besides that it's a fun and neat book of the Warriors series.
review 2: I thought Crookedstar's Promise was such a good book! Many moments were sad and upseting, but what I really hated was Rainflower's attitude toward Stormkit (I rather call him that then Crookedstar). It made me so angry and shocked at the things she said, and when she said something like " Does it matter? He'll never be as good as you" after Oakheart was made a warrior really got me steaming. I also hated it when she changed his name from Stormkit to Crookedkit just because of his twisted jaw. I was thinking "Hailstar, why are you letting this happen?!". The sad parts were when everyone Stormkit loved died (Oakheart not included). I thought When Mapleshade appeared that she was super tough (as she hurt crookedstar many times during training) and I was kind of angry when She put Stormkit's crush, Willowbreeze, in danger. But on the other hand I kind of felt bad when Mapleshade explained her story. This is basicly what happened to her: She was a Thunderclan cat but she fell in love with a Riverclan cat and they ended up having kits together, resulting in her and her kits banishment. As she was escaping her former clanmates across the river on the stepping stones her kits slipped and drowned in the raging currents. When she reached the other side the kits father blamed her for their deaths and took a Riverclan mate. Riverclan refused to let her into the clan and Mapleshade became a loner. The daughter of the tom was Shellheart's mother (Shellheart is Stormkit's father) making Stormkit the heir of Mapleshade's lost lover. After explaining her past, Mapleshade reveals that she wants to make Stormkit's life terrible by killing all he loves as revenge. Overall this is an upseting but really good story and I highly recommend it for readers who like aniamals, drama, and sad stories. less
