review 1: Quite possibly the nerdiest book ever written. It's basically Willy Wonka if the golden ticket were hidden in the most obscure 80s reference. It's a fun breezy read even if the constant references can get a bit exhausting. It feels like you've got a friend sitting next to you going "you get it? Didya get it?". It does have a nice message throughout about the worth of online relationships and the complications of living too often outside of reality.
review 2: Wow! What a great read. I couldn't help but connect OASIS virtual world to gamers today who immerse themselves in video games just to escape problems or issues they have in their real lives. It is also like the concept of dreaming; there are no limitations, boundaries, or pressures in what you do. It's esse
... morentially your world. So why go out and face reality when you can build your own in a game? And when you have that virtual world threatened or pulled out in front of you, you have to do anything to overcome the obstacles.A lot of reviewers have talked about the nostalgia of 80's references in this novel. For one, while not being born in the 80's, I wouldn't determine whether you read this novel based on that one fact. I'm also a casual gamer, so that shouldn't be a hindrance as well. If you like fast-paced action, with a great fancy base, this is the right novel for you. Final note: I find it quite interesting how relevant this novel is becoming as more time passes and how much we are connected to technology. The paid for games are there, even monthly subscriptions, the Oculus Rift virtual reality is there, now we just need to pump up those graphics, and you never know. less

Interesting idea, huge collection of geek trivia but stereotypical characters and absurd plot.

A quick read, it is a fun adventure though formulaic and predictable.
