review 1: This is the sequel to "A breath of Eyre" by Eve Marie Mont. We are catching up with Emma who is back at her Lockwood Prep school. Boyfriend Gray is leaving for the Coast Guard. Her roommate Michelle is hiding something. Some old enemies are now friends or at least frenemies. Emma is having lucid dreams--the best I can describe it--of herself as Hester Prynne of "The Scarlet letter". The book describes this as "being forced to choose between virtue and love" and I might add to love, a bit of lust. There is a lesbian budding romance at the school which may make some uncomfortable but it is handled tastefully. I rather enjoyed this book although I didn't always agree with the way characters handled themselves but then, hey, I am an adult and these are teen-age girls! I am... more looking forward to the finale of this series "A Phantom of Enchantment" taking place, where else, in Paris, France, featuring of course Gaston Leroux's "Le fantome de l'opera"---Can't wait!
review 2: While I think it might have helped reading the first book in the series, I still think this was a good book. It kept my attention and I have not read the Scarlet Letter, but know the basics of the story, which is about all you really need to read the book, most is explained if you missed some of the major points in the book. The author does a good job of bringing in the important parts of the Scarlet Letter. There was a good amount of “drama” if you will in the story and I had to admit it kept me wanting to read more. I enjoyed the writing of the author and thought she did a good job with all the characters and did a good job touching on a very sensitive subject. Ha Overbrook. This is the first book I read where it is the adaptation intertwined with another book and I think it was well written. I would recommend starting with the first book so you can understand the plot more of the second book in the series. less
