review 1: This novel revolves around Emma Townsend and the fictional character Jane Eyre. Emma is given the novel Jane Eyre for her sixteenth birthday. As she becomes immersed in the book she also discovers a portal into that world. The novel tells of her experiences in both worlds as she strives to find out what she really wants for her life romantically and otherwise. Emma is a scholarship student to an elite prep school Lockwood. Her time in the school is spent as an outsider. Like Jane, Emma has an innocence and purity about her that attracts a certain type of man. Initially in her time in Jane's world Emma feels she too is in love with Mr Rochester who looks like her English teacher at Lockwood whom she has a crush on. However, the novel takes a few twists and turns and she gra... moredually comes to sympathise with Bertha, Mr Rochester's insane wife who is kept locked up in one of the towers. As Emma moves between the worlds we see her grow and develop as a person who finds her voice and the love of her perfect man who also has his dark secrets. She ultimately chooses her own world to live in and leaves Thornfield and Mr Rochester to the fictional Jane Eyre.
review 2: I liked this young adult story. If I was still a young adult I might have given it 4 or even 4.5 stars! I’ve always thought a good story can pull you into it but in this novel the main character gets “pulled” into the story literally as her brain creates the world of “Jane Eyre” in order to survive a coma. There are many near death experiences with swimming accidents, lightning strikes, and barn fires - maybe too much to happen to one person in such a short time frame but it does make for an exciting storyline. Of course there is a love interest that were are not too sure about and a few evil teen villains to keep things interesting and are so easy to dislike. less
