review 1: This book was good, but very predictable. I absolutely adored the brother dynamic between Joe, Miles, and Harry. But Joe was a bit of a selfish brat. Really, all of the adults bothered me. I just wanted at least one of them to step up and do something about all the abuse. I think a lot could have been explored about some of them too. Most of them, like Aunty Jean and the father were just kind of evil. They weren't really fully rounded. I guess I just wanted to know more about why they were the way they were. But yeah, all the brother stuff was good - and the descriptions of them out at sea were great too. I just wanted more from the adults.
review 2: Very well written but so depressing! One of the writers strengths is in her ability to beautifully de... morescribe the natural landscapes, in this case the Tasmanian coast line so that you feel you can actually see it. The two main characters are very lovable and easy to sympathise with. On the down side I don't think there was enough character development, so the 'surprises' at the end are not really that surprising at all. less
