review 1: Zeer leuk en aangenaam boek. Op 14 februari naar Saint Amour geweest, daar kwam Floortje Zwigtman voorlezen uit "deel 3" van deze "groene-bloem-reeks". Terzelfdertijd vertelde een vriend me hoe goed hij deze reeks wel niet vond. Bij het eerstvolgende bezoek aan de bib dus maar meegenomen, na enig zoeken gevonden bij de "jeugdboeken".Zeker en vast de moeite. Fijn om te lezen. Ik kan begrijpen waarom het bij de "jeugd"-sectie staat, maar ook voor mij als 30-jarige heb ik ervan genoten. Nu nog deel 2 en deel 3 gaan halen.

Adrian's character I found to be clumsily charming and believable. He is nowhere near perfect and his faults and cheek is not covered up in any way. His faults and his youthful self confidence (with a tendency to end him in trouble) only made me love him more. Right from the beginning he was such a clear, consistent character that I had no trouble seeing him in my mind. I loved the tangible proces and change he underwent through the novel.As a complete history nerd - especially as a fan of the particular era the book is set in - I was so excited to see the rendering of the society and all the small details the author put into getting the setting right. In particular, I was surprised and delighted to find some recognisable faces (Bosie, Wilde, etc.) in the novel. There is a huge risk in using actual historical people in an otherwise fictional story, but I really did think they were portrayed in a lovely manner. Right after finishing, I returned it to the library and went out and bought it in the nearest bookstore. A very refreshing story! less
