review 1: I can't say much because my official review belongs to LibraryJournal, but the writing was in this coming-of-age was very good. I have said in the past that I hate when books portray death unrealistically in a sweet, rose-colored light, but this book did a good job of balancing the bitter and sweet; not just with the deaths but with the other themes too. I just wanted more of the guy, Josh, in the love triangle of friends. Ultimately this was about the friendship between the two girls, not about the guy or romance.
review 2: I loved this book. It had a bit of everything. The story itself combines themes of friendship, betrayal, first love, family and loss. It is told with humour and a nostalgic longing. For me, it was one of those stories I wanted to curl up
... more with and read from beginning to end. I identified with many of the aspects of Australian childhood and loved the characters - even those who were obviously flawed. less

Ok. Good holiday read but not much of substance! Too many story lines!

A nice light read, not bad for a first novel. Enjoyed it
