review 1: Seriously considered not continuing with this story but found enough interest to finish. Mostly the characters were easy not to like or sympathize with - lots of disfunction and misogyny. The murder investigation and the personal lives of the characters were clunky particularly in their handling and cross over between the murder story and the personal stories. In the end I was prepared to see how the author chose to resolve the murder while unpacking the lives of those involved. And sadly, I think, no characters had developed really - the unpacking left a sense of sadness, loss and not to much to move forward with.
review 2: I want to thank Goodreads and Jeanine Bogdan from Brilliance Publishing for hosting this giveaway and giving me a chance to read somethin
... moreg I normally would not have picked up. I love that it was a German book but was so surprised that all the references were American! Perhaps that was a deliberate translation choice but I was hoping to glean some German pop culture tidbits...This was a fast read but it really does come through that this is the author's first adult novel. Some of the lines between Arthur and Felix felt juvenile and shallow. There was a big plot hole that also was never addressed; one that I won't mention here for fear of spoilers. Overall, it was a fast-paced inbetween book for me but nothing like great literature. less
