review 1: I read it mostly to hear Gabby's story. It's good to better understand her on her journey and to fully understand the lessons she had to learn along with gaining some meditations and techniques that she uses. My expectations weren't very high going into it (I had already read parts of the ACIM and Marianne Williamson). As I said-- for knowing and understanding Gabby's story, it's totally worth reading! However, as far as finding something to really rattle your core and transform you through really reading her words then look elsewhere.
review 2: There is a lot I liked about this book and a lot that just didn't resonate with me and that's okay. I am not necessarily the audience that the author was writing for and I fully own that. I didn't find the exercises
... more to be particularly powerful or useful for me except for one which I did for a day and thought, wow, this is neat. It was the exercise relating to seeing your ego. I didn't do it every hour like she suggests or for as long as she suggests, but the few days afterwards I found myself more conscious of my attacking and fearful thoughts. What I enjoyed most about the book was the narrative about how the author was led to her own spiritual practice and how she changed her life. She is very clear in her message that you should listen to your own ~ing, which stands for Inner Guide and is a little too cutesy a term for my taste (yes, I'm being judgmental, sorry) and do what feels right. She knows that what exactly works for her may not work for you but she offers it as a suggestion.I also liked how she reconciled her current lifestyle and enjoyment of things like high heeled shoes with her spiritual beliefs. It's not that one has to suddenly become a monk to love oneself and connect with the Divine, so I appreciated that. less
