Top 5 Wednesday: Characters on the Naughty List

I think I’ve done something fairly similar… Or maybe when I see this topic, all I can think about are villains? (I did make a Top 10 Tuesday post about villains a while back…) But I supposed this list could focus on general crappy characters, not necessarily villains.

So let’s do this!

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly blog meme started on Goodreads. You can check out the group and the topics here.

Okay, so I’ve had the desire to reread The Winner’s Trilogy for a while now. Maybe I’ll do it while I’m on Christmas break, but my mind immediately goes to two specifics characters: the Emperor and Kestrel’s father, General Trajan. Both are horrible people. It may not seem like it on the outside, but the more learn about these two characters from the eyes of our narrator, Kestrel, we see that they both suck and really deserve their ending. #sorrynotsorry

So you might be thinking about the Commandant, right? Like she is pretty awful (ruthless?) but truth me told, I’m thinking of another character: Keenan. Sure, he was fine in book 1! I’m sure we were rooting for him! But tear my heart out why don’t you, Sabaa? (No, I was never rooting for Laia and him but still, I’ve been duped!) I can’t wait to see what shenanigans will happen in A Reaper at the Gates (the release date has been pushed back from April to May, if you didn’t know).

Oh yes, Levana from The Lunar Chronicles. Personally, I think Levana would have been a great character…if she hadn’t made the choices she did when she was younger. She could have acted differently and been a better person, but no. Ughhhh. And what she did to Winter? Forget it!

Haha, not Aelin! But there are also a handful of people that deserve to go on the naughty list: Dorian’s father, Manon’s grandmother, and Aelin’s aunt Maeve! How Sarah can write such ruthless characters is still a mystery to me (and a challenge in my own writing)! They’re all horrible!

I have a bit of mixed feelings about the last one: Adelina Amouteru. If you haven’t read the series, I won’t spoil it for you, but if you love anti-heroes, you should definitely check this series out! There’s something both dark and mysterious about each character in this series, and I’d be lying to myself if I didn’t wish that Marie would return to this series to write about one character in particular… Who knows?!

This was fun! I think it’s always fun to explore the darker side of particular characters. Feel free to leave your T5W in the comments, and I’ll be sure to check them out!

Don’t forget that I’m also giving away my ARC of Three Sides of a Heart over on my Twitter. You can check it out here.
