review 1: If anybody has ever experienced the loss of somebody close to you in an I unexpected way, meaning not through sickness or old age, then you know it rocks you to your core. There are so many what ifs. In the novel, the main character has lost her brother to drowning and she was supposed to look out for him and so there is a whole lot of shame and guilt on her shoulders. Her family hasn't really moved on from the event and she feels trapped on many levels. I liked how the author treated grief and showed how each family member was trying to cope in their own way and also showed healing for the relationships. That was done well. The rest of the story was okay but didn't really wow me like this plot line did.
review 2: A very real and honest story of a teenage girl
... moretrying to overcome the confines of grief and self-loathing.She finds hope and love when she meets Frankie Sky, a little boy that reminds her so much of her brother Simon. Over the summer, Francesca confronts her fears and self-imposed limits in order to see what life has to offer despite having suffered an unimaginable loss.I thought the ending was weak. less
