review 1: Lots of fun to read, and it did bring back some fun memories! There were some things listed that I had completely forgotten about (Tickle deoderant!) and my only disappointment was that there was no "send us an email if we didn't mention something you loved" that I hoped to find at the end. One of the authors has a pop culture website which I will certainly be checking out, and maybe that will fill the void. This was a nice break from the serious fiction I've been consuming!
review 2: I LOVED this book! It is great for people raised in the 70's and 80's (and remember this time). The subtitle is "The Lost Toys, Tastes and Trends of the 70's and 80's" and as such covers a little bit of everything during this time period.The book is arranged alphabetically by the ... moreitem. There is then a brief description (4-5 small paragraphs) of the item, an "X-Tinction Rating" -- telling whether something is still going strong, revised & revived or gone for good -- sniff sniff. Sometimes there is a "Replaced By" and often a "Fun Fact" about the item.Some of the many items that caught my fancy: After School Specials, Atari 2600, Battle of the Network Stars, Benji, Bicentennial Mania, Big Boy, Casey Kasem on American Top 40, Choose Your Own Adventure (books), "Convoy", Debbie Gibson, Drive-in Movies, Dynamite Magazine, Eight is Enough, Eight-Tracks, The Electric Company, The Facts of Life, Fascination with the 50's (think Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, M*A*S*H, etc.), Fashion Plates, The Game of Life, Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific, The Goonies, Harlem Globetrotters, Hawaiian Punch Commercials, "I'm a Pepper", In the News, Judy Blume books, Laff-A-Lympics, Little House on the Prairie, Love's Baby Soft, Marathon Candy Bar, Metal Lunch Boxes, Metal Pudding Containers, Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, Nancy Drew, The New Scooby-Doo Movies, Operation, Pay Phones, Playing Outside, Real People & That's Incredible, Record Players, Roller Rinks, Schoolhouse Rock!, Scratch 'n' Sniff Stickers, Silver Spoons, Simon, Sitting in the Way Back of a Station Wagon, Slime, Super Friends, Thriller, Time Life Books, Toy Catalogs, Trapper Keepers, TV Theme Songs, Typing Class, Variety Shows, Videos on MTV, View-Master, Waterbeds, Weebles, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (Gene Wilder version) -- I can remember being so disappointed when I went to Hershey, PA expecting to find a chocolate river -- real life was nowhere near as cool as in this movie!
