review 1: This somewhat disturbingly illustrated wordless picture book is absolutely amazing. Basically, Bear has his special stuffed animal (who my 2 1/2 year old children named "Purple"). An array of naughty animals steal Purple away from the bear, and he eats them up. In the end, of course, everyone survives and Bear and Purple are reunited. The illustrations did seem strange for a small child, but my small ones LOVED this book. Really loved it, and they had a lot to say about it, a lot of empathy to offer, and understanding about why Bear was so upset. This is a great conversation piece, and a lot of fun to look at as an adult too.

... moreok had no words (one of 6 in a series apparently) until I opened it. The illustrations were nice, but its hard to read a story without words, so I made one up. I didn't like that he ate the meanies, but I did like the octopus's kindness at the end. Its interesting, but I wouldn't reach for it twice. less

Comical characters depict a bear doing anything he has to to retrieve his stolen teddy bear.
