Our Souls to Keep
review 1: Years ago, 17 year old Wake sacrificed his soul to try to save his mother's and ended up making a deal with the devil. Unburdened by human emotions, Wake works his way up the ranks of Satan's army to become one of his top soul collectors. His specialty - making people commit suicide. Early in the story, Wake begins having flash backs of his human life and starts to feel emotions again. He's given a special assignment from Satan and is told that his emotions were given back as a gift to help him complete his assignment. Using his skills as a soul collector he must convince the lovely Annemarie to commit suicide and kill herself as well as her unborn child. However, Wake's new emotions are harder to handle than he thought and he begins to have some troubles completing ... morehis assignment. I thought the story was good and moved along at a nice pace. The characters were well developed and had a lot of layers. Some of the characters were a little underused and were taken out of the story very quickly, often after only a short interaction with Wake. I did enjoy the interactions between Wake and his mentor Nevin and it was interesting to see the hierarchy of hell. I could easily imagine demons being so petty and wiping each other out to get ahead. I felt like the novel handled Wake's transition from soul-less demon to having feelings again pretty well. He struggled with the things he had done as a demon and even more so with why he had done it. Ultimately, he was doing what he thought was best for his mother and trying to do right by Annemarie and the baby.I was given a free copy of this to review.
review 2: Hope you enjoy...........Well to review...Plot:2Characters:1Keeping me intrigued: 1Having potential:1I received this book from the author in return for my honest review......The main reason I wanted to read this book was because I found it interesting and it was unlike anything I have ever read. Therefore as a result I am so happy I took this risk..........The first book The Promised Land introduces us to the characters Wake Reynolds and his family.Growing up with a family who faced many problems due to a drunken mother and father his life changed completely..Choosing to let his mother live over his life Wake Reynolds now works for satan....Now we enter into a very dark book where murder is number one above all:So as a top soul collector for satan in this book we learn of the duties of which Wake does...Wakes dutie: to collect souls from teens by making them comment suicide so that God can not get to them. Its doing one of his missions that he starts to have flashbacks of his pass...later on in the book he will eventually discover why he his getting his memories back and who his the one giving it to him...Continuing on.....Fast pace and never off key this book continues to keep me wanting more.. Then it gets really good...But first lemme mention Nevin who is Wakes mentor I just wanna say that the bodies that he choose to posses are so sexy..Anyways I just had to mention that...So Wake gets a very important job....everyone really wants this and therefore they go after Wake..Now enter in Annemarie..a pregnant young women who his now Wakes new victim...but this is where it goes wrong.....Within this book you will notice that wake tends to develop emotions towards his victims making him not want to kill them....but in order to live he has no choice.Plus this is satan we are talking about....Everyone wants to kill Annemarie but it is wakes duty and he can't because he starts to develop feelings for her..so in order to protect her he runs for shelter in a church where he meets someone who??? So socking......The love that Wake has for Annemarie although I felt like it was rush it was still cute and enjoyable to read..In this book we really learn that wake would do anything for the one he loves..I mean anything.....17 yrs old and working for satan who knew it would be such hard work well we now know....Soo book three I can't wait to read ....I am very much anticipating.... less
