review 1: I Was Here deals with the ever present issue of teen suicide, and it does it in a way that is sensitive, compelling and thought-provoking. Cody has no idea why her best friend Meg killed herself - she saw no signs and had no clue, and despite the note that Meg leaves her she is bereft. Determined to delve into the parts of Meg's life she didn't know about, she is intent upon discovering why her friend felt like she had no other way out but to kill herself. What transpires is shocking and fascinating because it goes on in real life, and it's such a taboo subject that it is one of those things that is often unstoppable as no one knows it's happening (I know that's cryptic but it's impossible to say more without spoiling it!).All I'd say is fans of If I Stay will be impressed... more with this novel, and my guess is they will love this even more - I certainly did!
review 2: This book was excellent. So much better than If I Stay. It was very dark but relatable in a way. It's the first YA book that I've read that has truly talked about life and death in a way that felt very real, deeply emotional, but not at all forced. If I Stay just left me really sad, but this book's plot and main character were so complicated and tortured that it felt more like a tug-of-war between grief and moving on than just the general sadness of if I stay. I read it in one sitting. Highly recommend. less
