The Iron Trial by Holly Black
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
My thought after reading this book was very, very good. I am, as always, a big fan of magic. Despite its similarities to HP, I found it different enough that I could read it with enjoyment. Lots of enjoyment. Probably because I first read HP so long ago (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was the first chapter book I read to myself), I am able to compare it while at the same time keeping the books separate in my head. The plot twist (about which I will not, at this point, write) is both the same as and a distinct departure from the one in HP book 7 – it really depends how you think of it.
I chose to think of it as a twisty little adventure, and thus enjoyed it.
