review 1: This was an enjoyable book, largely because I grew up in Illinois in the 50's and 60's as big Cubs fan (Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Ron Santo, Ferguson Jenkins, etc.). George Will's latest baseball book was a fun nostalgic look at the history of the park and the team, and all those years of disappointment. I didn't rate it higher because the author tends to ramble and go off on pointless tangents at times. Nevertheless, if you like baseball history, I think you will enjoy it.
review 2: At some places it gets really heavy on baseball. I don't care much for baseball unless I'm the actual ballpark but the depth and sources that Will draws from is awe-inspiring. When he actually details the Friendly confines it's like watching Michael Jordan shoot hoops, or Pica
... moresso paint. You are privy to great secrets and some facts that aren't secrets. You feel better after reading this title despite the essence in futility that is the Chicago Cubs. less
