review 1: I really enjoyed parts of this book though I have to say some stories were more riveting than others. At the heart I felt that the preface ran contrary to body: if, as the preface suggests, every generation experiences an 'unwinding', this was not clear to me in the text, which seemed to impress the fact that America now is fundamentally broken in a way it never was before and there seems to be no 'positive' experience or alternative.
review 2: Interesting envisioning of how the financial and political changes over the past 4 decades have brought us to where we are today and each crisis. But it's also a slow read and one of a few books that I've had to renew repeatedly. Also kind of depressing when you think if this is correct, how it's unlikely any of us young... more adults will be upwardly mobile with similar opportunities to what our grandparents and parents had. less
