review 1: This is a light, pleasant read about a kind, considerate, and humble man. No new facts but an excellent reminder of President Bush's accomplishments and how he always valued others and tried to get to know people. He made friends that certainly helped him politically but also made friends just because he liked the person - and he reached out and kept in touch. Great story about his inauguration: You know Inauguration Day has got to be stressful and exhausting - starting with getting the keys to the White House and ending with a dozen Inaugural Balls and lots in between. The Bush's invited their 10 grandchildren to spend the night so they too could share in the event. Being parents and grandparents they had to realize the noise level that 10 cousins at a sleepover could pro... moreduce but they thought of others - not themselves. The book is also pretty revealing as far as the author. The second President Bush isn't quite as humble as his dad and likes to share funny little tidbits about himself and justify some of the decisions that he made during his Presidency. Ego and self focus is fairly typical of such highly successful people so I wasn't surprised by the 2nd Bush - it just highlighted how amazing the 1st Bush is to keep his focus on serving his country and others.I liked the book. It's not great literature but it did make me tear up and miss my Dad. This is an excellent vacation read.
review 2: President Bush (43) does a wonderful job of detailing and characterizing the man who raised him, George H. W. Bush (41). From a pure resume stand point, 41 was probably the most qualified president of the 20th century. 43 shows us how he accrued his experience without sacraficing his morals and keeping family close. Regardless of your politics, this is a wonderful read on character, politics, and leadership. less
