review 1: Yes - I liked it. I think the description "A Portrait of My Father" serves the book well. The reader never loses sight of the fact that the son writes the book. So, a not-unbiased biography written by one who loves and admires his subject. The pictorial inserts are well-chosen, reflecting the narrative. The author George W. makes his own presence felt throughout. It often works well, as the book is about his father after all. Other times it works less well, drawing the focus away from the elder Bush toward the younger.Interestingly, I walked away from the book with respect for George H. W. Bush but even greater respect for his wife Barbara. For the elder Bush to have accomplished what he did and lived the life he lived, someone behind the scenes served as "wind benea... moreth his wings."
review 2: George W. said this book wouldn't be objective. Boy was he right. He praised his old man and himself for bringing us two oil wars in Iraq. So for the political part this gets a 2. If I recall, his Dad lost more elections than he won ( when at the top of the ticket) but he was a good soldier for the GOP and got his shot like Dole and McCain and Romney eventually. According to GW it was Ross Perot who caused HW to lose to Clinton. However, on the human interest and family side this was a fun and at times interesting read, especially listening to GW trying to pronounce all those foreign names on the CD version which I listened to. So I give it a 4 for that aspect with an overall score of 3. One particularly humorous part was when dad set up George W. on a blind date with a famous person's daughter. less

I loved this book. It is a great tribute and a peek inside an incredibly fine family.

Too bad all of our presidents don't have the strength of character as George Bush!

So much love from son to father. It's a good example of family's love.
