review 1: I have not yet read the previous book - didn't know it existed. And I did have to make some fancy intuitive leaps, but I preferred that to tedious filling in - the book respected one's intelligence that way. It is charming and funny and a great escape without being witless. I am glad I am able to find them at the library, which is how I found this one. I plan to read the previous book, even though I rather "know" what happened, which means that I enjoyed the sense of humor.
review 2: Read this second after reading the first in this series. The vocabulary is fun and different because it is set in England. Definitely not an edge-of-your-seat read. This is a warm, cozy chick book. I think there is a third in the series and I don't want to buy it so will request th... moreat my local library get it because it has the first two. Not deep enough for a book club unless your club mostly focuses on quick reads and food at your meetings. less
