review 1: I have just finished listening to this and to be honest, I'm feeling pretty stung. I bought this on Audible from the strength of the reviews and current 'recommendations based on your previous purchases'! I rather like a crime/mystery/split settings twist, and this certainly delivered. The 'goodie' is a rather self-centred MCP, not in least bit endearing. There is a predictable boy meets girl, girl wants to change/save boy, girl and boy finally falls in love element, which I'm unsure was necessary, but no doubt made the story rounder. The split settings (and times) do blend well, leaving gentle hints about whodunit. It took a couple of chapters to work out who, and quite a few more to work out how, but I admit I wasn't sold as to why. Great concept, and to me, rather uniqu... moree. Once you find out the whole reason, you are left to ponder just why it ends so abruptly, and why everyone just passes it off with such indifference and acceptance. I reasoned why, but as the story never seemed to go there, I assumed differently..... but I wasn't wrong, and now I wish there hadn't been that ending. A similar feel to the ending of Inferno (another audiobook) - is this the new way to round it all off? Must say, it was an excellent audiobook, well read at a perfect pace.
review 2: It was ok. Would not consider it a thriller. I trudged through this novel because personally if I start a book I commit to it until the end...the book is easily figured out. I didn't really find any character better than the other. The premise of the book had a lot of possibilities but seemed to slide into a usual scenerio of writing a mystery novel in the end. Apparently there is a sequel set for two years later which didn't tempt me to add to my must read list.... less
