review 1: I have to admit I was skeptical when I started reading this book. It sounded very boring and ordinary, but I loved it. Michael and John has so much in common and then at times they had nothing in common. Both characters were well represented and the dept to them was very good. At times the book left me feeling frustrated but then it would turn around for me. The themes of war and love were present in almost every page. It was hard not too see the effects the war had on both characters. It takes a long time for the characters to get together. But when they do its amazing and you are unable to look away or stop reading. This book had a very good effect on me and normally I find it hard to love a historical mm romance book. This was one of the major exceptions. G.N. Chevalier... more is an amazing author and has written a book that shows so many emotions without leaving you exhausted. I would highly recommend this book to all mm fans out there :)
review 2: Bonds of Earth. . . I gotta be honest, I bought the book because of the cover. Just loved it. It gave me hope that it wasn’t your run of the mill romance. I’m sick to death of those damn things! Bonds of Earth didn’t let me down, although for a moment I thought it was going to. It is one of those books with no frills, no huge gasps or fears, or shocks. And, it’s better for it. And, it is a romance, but in a true, honest way. In a way I can greatly respect. It reminded me of the movie Maurice, in a beautiful aspect. Bonds of Earth is pure, eloquent story-telling. It’s simple—but simple in a way only highlights how painstakingly crafted it is. There were several lines I re-read due to their beauty or their insight. Every character is believable, and nothing seems forced. G.N. Chevalier, you have a book of which to be proud!!! less
