review 1: This is one of those books I would want to go back and read in the original Italian- Sapienza's fiction flows like a fever dream, recounting the days and passions of the romance of socialist ideals with a genuinely human and earthy perspective. Modesta is well and truly and unforgettable protagonist- and whether you disapprove of her or admire her, she will disturb you, she will get under your skin and change you, and maybe some day, you will go back to revisit her. A remarkable read.
