review 1: Excellent principles, lengthy & meandering delivery. The core ideas are all covered by his HBR articles. The examples are weak illustrations of each point, and some components of the system are only loosely interwoven (e.g. play), but overall they're decent short business anecdotes. I'm happy I skimmed this, but wouldn't recommend spending much time - just focus on the blog posts & chapter titles and you'll get what's essential from this book.
review 2: This book took a completely different approach to the standard "improve yourself" book. Most books usually tried to hack yourself into doing more. Doing things like sleeping less so you can do more. Or even how to pack as many things as you can into your daily schedule. Essentialism By Greg McKeown takes an i
... morenteresting approach and showing how to do less in your life so you can focus on the things that matter and to enjoy your life much more. The basic principle is that we as people love to feel busy. It makes us feel important and doing something with our lives. This book takes a different approach and shows how we can be disciplined in doing "less" with our lives. This gives us the chance to focus on the things that matter and to really enjoy what we do. Greg McKeown gives many great examples of current and past figures and their approach to doing certain things. This book does re-iterate a lot of things that are explained in many other books. Though it is always good to have these concepts and ideas mashed into your mind. Definitely a mindful read! less
