review 1: This is a gorgeous and fascinating book. The images of Del Toro's house and notebooks are phenomenal and the glimpse into his creative process is fantastic. When interviewed he comes across as wise and full of wonder and even on his later films, like the Hellboys and Pacific Rim that I really didn't care for, the amount of thought and work behind each design decision is so apparent that it gives you a new appreciation for those films. As well as being incredibly envious of his talent for creating beautiful things, I do wish there were more photographs of his house and more pages from all of his notebooks, but as a quick snapshot of the inner workings of a creative and passionate mind it is superb. It also has one of my favourite quotes all year in it:"So live well. Be curi... moreous and hungry and always in awe of the world."
review 2: As if Guillermo del Toro wasn't already my favourite director; as if I didn't already love him more than most people in this world. An absolutely stunning insight into the limitless imagination and surreal brain of one of the most interesting and creative artists of all time -- a must-read for anyone who wants to understand GDT better or wants to appreciate his work on a more visceral level. Just bloody wonderful. less

I'll admit that I skimmed some of the text, but I thought this was a beautiful and intriguing book.
