review 1: This is a book that is about a girl who never followed the norm. She was a real go-getters. She loved getting dirty, She was discouraged from studying science, but she did it any way. She decided to write to different gardeners from all over to find seeds that would be able to tolerate a desert climate. Different types of trees were growing throughout the city. This is a wonderful book to teach children that they can be whoever they want to be and to never give up on their dreams.
review 2: A lovely story about a woman who changed San Diego, California in the 1880's by planting trees. Katherine Olivia Sessions was educated in science and loved trees. When she moved to San Diego there were no trees, it was a desert area. She planted trees all over city park (
... morerenamed Balboa park) and grew trees in her nursery. This is a lovely book for children. The artwork is beautiful, especially the cover art. less
