Skyler Foxe Mysteries
review 1: Skyler Foxe is a twink with a heart of gold. He loves teaching high school English, he loves his friends (all of whom he's slept with except for his childhood friend Sidney, who's a woman and a cop) and he, well, thinks he loves his football-coach boyfriend Keith. But this wouldn't be a Skyler Foxe mystery without a mystery - indeed a series of brush fires in too-dry California and a murder that seems oddly oddly linked to Skyler and his life. Anyone who's read any of these will know that Skyler can't keep his cute little twink butt out of trouble, especially where his friends or his students are concerned. Haley Walsh gives us good people to care about; an interesting plot to try to unravel (or not, depending on your style); and at the center of it all is a young man jus... moret beginning to understand the adult concepts of love and friendship and fidelity and trust. Walsh writes well, with humor and just the right touch of emotion. The romantic part of this book is crucial - but is mixed nicely into the larger narrative, so that it feels integral and not simply an expected ingredient. Nothing in this series is accidental, and nothing can be removed without spoiling the whole thing. That's the way you write a book.
review 2: I do enjoy this author’s writing style. She brings in humor and just enough drama to create a very pleasant read. The plot wasn’t all the great. It flowed smooth but was a little easy to figure out and guess some of what would happen. Also the whole misunderstanding that occurs happens in A LOT of books. With Skyler’s situation it does bring a little bit different spin on the whole of it and makes it more believable and less of a pain when apologies start going. The writing itself is good. It isn’t outstanding but it is well done with things described well and not in an overblown way. The characters…well, Skyler is finally growing up! We see him as a little less immature than he usually is and figuring out himself and his place in the world well. I think he still has a ways to go but he is getting there. Keith…I never have got a good read on him. He seems to be filling in slowly though and I was glad to see that the author put him in this and showed a bit of a problem side to his character. The side characters, as always are great. They are unique and give a lot of life and color to the story. I think I can safely say everyone will start wanting more of Fishbreath as well.I think this is a solid read that is enjoyable but not what you call outstanding. Though it had less mystery drama, I feel, than previous books it makes it up somewhat with the character growth that occurs. I think most will like the story without maybe LOVING it. less

This is a fun series of books and this volume continues the tradition. True candy for the brain.

The not-talking-about-the-big-misunderstanding is getting tiredsome, but overall I liked this
