Skyler Foxe Mysteries
review 1: 3.5 stars--I have a love/hate relationship with Skyler Foxe. He’s a relatively immature 25 year old—5’5” tall, too cute for his own good and has a fairly high opinion of himself. He’s like a kid in a candy shop—big eyes, looking at, drooling over and wanting to sample all the yummy sweets—let’s face it, up till now at least, he’s been a slut. On the plus side, his job and the kids he teaches mean the world to him, as do his friends, and he has a heart of gold. This is part 2 of 3—they are in no way stand-alones. It’s more like one book chopped into thirds. The mysteries (yes, there are many of them) are interesting and the characters are entertaining. I find many of the situations in the book to be unrealistic. Search warrants seem to magically appear ... morebased on Skyler’s say-so. Skyler is able to leave school without notice for extended periods of time. He can come in hours late with nothing but a warning phone call, and he rarely does any work outside of school. The writing style of this series is much like Sklyer—immature and a little too sweet. Consequently, I have a love/hate relationship with this series as well. In the end, however, I guess I weigh in on the side of love/like because I’m definitely coming back for the final episode.
review 2: The books in this series are pleasant, breezy, and entertaining. So why only the three stars?Well...for one thing, IMHO the writing is awfully basic and superficial. Everything is spelled out for us, with precious little subtext, depth, or sophistication. For another thing, the MC Skyler is very much the chick-with-dick sort of character. Put a skirt on him, and it would be hard to tell the difference. And for yet another, there are too many times when Skyler is simply TSTL. Tell the cops, fercrissake! If you're worried about fingerprints somewhere, WIPE THEM OFF! And so on. It gets annoying after a while.Nonetheless, not a bad way to spend a brainless afternoon. And yes, I will read the third book, just to see what happens next. ;-) less

I love these books. They're fun and the mystery is light hearted. A really fun read.
