review 1: قصة حياة كاملة، أم حنان الشيخ، هي قصة كل أم، كل أخت، كل حبيبة، كل امرأة تقريبا في واقعنا العربي ولذلك نقرأها والتأثر غالب علينا ونحن نتمنى لو أن نقلب الموازين ونعطي المرأة ما يحق لها من الأساس وسلبها إياه المجتمع الشرقي الظالم والذي يرى المرأة على أنها أشياء متناثرة على هامش الوجود. أعجبني في حنان الجرأة كعادتها وأنها تقدر أن تجعلني أضحك وسط غصة الألم وأن البسمة لا تفارق وجوهنا طالما كنا نقرأ، وهذا هو الفارق بين حنان وغيرها من ا�... more�نساء العربيات في عالم الرواية. حنان كلها أمل، كلها حياة، كلها حيوية ولا ترضخ للحزن وتدعه يقول كلمته الأخيرة بل هناك انتصار للوجود بشكل أو بآخر. كلما قرأت أكثر وأكثر في هذه الرواية كلما شعرت أن كاملة أم حنان الشيخ هي قطعة مني وأني أنا قطعة من لبنان وأني لبناني بشكل من الأشكال وإن كنت مصري المولد، وفي هذه المرأة يخفق قلبي بلبنان المعاناة، لبنان الجريح، لبنان كاملة وآلامها، لبنان الأسر الفقيرة المطحونة، لبنان الأسر الشيعية تحت وطأة قهر وظلم ما بعده ظلم. لم نعد بحاجة إلى لبنان هيفاء وهبي وعالم البهرجة الكاذب المزيف بل هناك عالم كاملة، عالم لا يستعرضه أحد ولكنه الواقع الأصلي الذي يمس أعماق قلوبنا.أكثر ما أحبه في حنان هو روح المرح عندها.. نعم نبكي على وفاة والدتها الست كاملة ولكن حنان لا يفوتها أن تأتي بالبسمة لوجوهنا وسط الألم وفي لوعة الأحزان مؤكدة على أن الانتصار للحياة وأن كل الأشياء تعمل معا للخير ولا شيء يحدث اعتباطًا بل "حكايتي شرح يطول، لوما الجرادة ما علق عصفور". لحق العصفور بالجرادة لذلك وقع في الفخ ولولا الجرادة لما رأينا العصفور. أيضا يعجبني في حنان هو صدقها في ما تكتب فهي لا تريد تجميل شيء وتكتب كل شيء وبجرأة تساعدنا على أن نرى واقعنا كما هو. لماذا التكلف وهي يمكن أن تتحدث عن ما يحصل في الأسر وإن اقتضى الأمر ذكر بعض الأشياء بفجاجتها؟ أليست الحياة مزيج من كل هذا؟ بالتأكيد هي كذلك.أعجبتني هذه المقاطع:وكان الحب يترك كلانا في صحراء كلما ازداد قربنا وشربنا ماء سعادتنا، اشتد ظمأ أحدنا للآخر. أعاتبه ويعاتبني، أحاسبه ويحاسبني، لأننا لا نستطيع أن يخترق أحدنا الآخر، ويختفي داخله. كان الواقع يسدّ أمامنا أي فتحة نحاول أن ننفذ منها. (صفحة ١٨�٠)------------------------------------------------------------------------أشكر الله إني لست حبلى، عندئذ أتذكر قصة امرأة أخرى في النبطية داهمها المخاض بعد ثلاثة أشهر فقط من حملها، فوضعت مولودًا معافىً يزن حوالي خمسة كيلو غرامات. وعندما ساور الشك زوجها، وواجهها بظنونه، مضت ترضع مولودها وكأنَّها لم تسمع شيئًا. وعندما استنطقها مرة أخرى صاحت به: "ولو ما بتعرفش تحسب؟""كانون وكنّو وكنكة هاي ٣ أشهرشباط وباط وبيطره هاي ٦ أشهرأذار وزرو وزرزرو هيّاهن صاروا ٩ أشهر" (صفحة ١٨٨)---------------------------------------------------------( لا تقسي على ماضٍ تولى، انه كان حلواً لأني تحديت الجلاد، و تحديت القيود في معصمي، و استرجعت حريتي من الجواري المباعة بلا ثمن )
review 2: This was a simple and ultimately beautiful book that I almost put aside because it was hard for me to get into at first. I think I had an initially difficult time with the writing style, because it seemed stilted and too linear, which made it hard to get lost in the story- this happened, then this, then this. I kept reminding myself that it was translated from Arabic, and that it might not flow as smoothly in English. Once the story picked up I forgot about my issues with style. I don't know if the writing improved or my curiosity made me forget. The author follows her mother's life from a young child to her death. What I found most interesting were the descriptions of Muslim family life. I was surprised at how lax it all was, compared to my expectations. People married, divorced, re-married, had affairs, had children from those affairs, and through it all, while there were negative social effects, no one feared for their lives, or of being stoned or exiled. Kamila, for example, was married to her brother-in-law, 18 years her senior, after his wife dies. While their marriage was initially consummated and she became pregnant, she refused to sleep with him for the next 3 years, and I was surprised that her wishes were respected. When she goes to the doctor to give birth at 15, he and all the nurses are ashamed for her, and insult her family for marrying off a child. So many things were much more progressive than I thought they would have been in 1930's Beirut. One aspect of Kamila's life that didn't surprise me and made me sad for her was her illiteracy. She had a poetic spirit, and composed songs and rhymes to recite, but never learned to commit them to paper. She was taken advantage of for her ignorance, and it was clearly a sore spot with her that never went away. She begged her daughter for years to write her life story, saying that she was defeated by a simple pencil, and her lack of ability to use it. I think this could serve as an analogy for the way women have often been silenced throughout history, their stories never told or cared about, either because they lacked the education to share them or because no one would have bothered to listen anyway. I think this book is special because it shares such an intimate look into what is, to most people, an unfamiliar world, and because of the act of love and forgiveness it took the author to do this for her mother. less
