review 1: I was looking for something to tide me over until the next Diana Gabaldon Outlander book. Sara Donati's Into the Wilderness was fairly satisfying, but then I finished those as well. I was glad to see another writer with a wealth of Highland adventures. Unfortunately, this book was a a pale shadow of those other adventures. It lacked any depth and the characters seemed very one dimensional. I found the book to be lacking as well in any historical insights. I didn't throw the book out completely, but I was disappointed.
