review 1: 4.5 on star, but rounded up because it was so well written. (-.5 is for the little bits of 'disney perfection')first off, the writer has a really unique style of writing. it flows from various characters 1st to 3rd to even ( a very rare few times) author narrative. some may not like that style, but it worked for the book, and i think thats what really added the depth. the author shows things from so many angles, without somehow making you drunk on perspectives.the story itself, albeit a bit typical and fairly predictable, was beautifully written. some what over done (esp. the epiloge) but it still left me feeling good at the endif you like reading about overcoming struggles, firsts and ultimately a hea, this book is for you!
review 2: AUTHOR REVIEW:It all start
... moreed on a dull winter Friday, with an image: A man sitting in front of his fire place in a cabin, by a lake. The scenery wintery, lots of snow. By his feet, his beloved dog. It started out as a short story, but when I saw my fingers typing how someone knocked on the door, I realized that something else was going on, something I felt the need to explore.Jonathan's Hope, like my other novels so far, is about starting a family, although this is never really explored in the book itself, and without spoiling much (others have done so already, and so well), we only follow the two until they are safely underway, and we get a tiny, but extremely significant glimpse of the future. The coming out process is often painful, usually, I should say, for most LGBT kids. In Jonathan's case, it could've been lethal. Sadly, even that happens far too often. But he survives and we get to follow him, as he slowly rebuilds his life, or rather sets out to live it, as he's only eighteen.Unconsciously, I was also exploring the concept of age differences in relationships. It's a big thing for the very young, no nine year old will play with a six year old unless coerced by adults, and when in high school, every month could be significant in how mature we judged each other. As adults, that difference becomes less significant, and we see quite a few couple who are a decade, some even two, apart. But once we reach old age, what then? What if one of us is sixty and the other eighty? This is where the epilogue comes in, exploring the very extreme of an age difference no larger than the one between my own and my husband's. How do we deal with that?I know the epilogue is not an easy read, have plenty of tissues ready, I still cry every time I read it, and it was, to date, the most difficult thing I've ever written.I can't help but love this story, I hope you will, too! less

Een homoseksuele dokterroman, voorspelbaar, zoetsappig en behaagziek. Te simpel voor woorden. Brrr.
