review 1: This easily has become one of the best books I have read all year. I really got involved in the characters jace and heathers lives. There was so many powerful themes and underlying messages throughout the text. I give this book 5 stars because it was well written, the author puts the medical terms in a way the everyday person can understand and it was addictive. I read this book in 1 day and was so sad when I finished it.The only downside is the book ends abruptly without as much closure as the main characters deserved. Despite that shortcoming the book still concludes in a positive manner. This book is categorized as a Christian novel. As a strong Christian I thought I would enjoy this book tremendously. I was impressed with the writing and the ability to share the message... more of God without being over bearing and preachy. Books like that can be annoying and take away from the natural course of the characters lives. Definitely would recommend this book and will be reading more by this author in the future
review 2: Interesting All the Way AroundThis book is interesting on so many levels. The descriptions of life in Africa for missionaries and their families, as well as the lives of the Kenyans creates a rich, unusual, unexplored setting. The openness of the Kenyans to the spiritual world provides the necessary spiritual depth to the story. The detailed descriptions of the medical aspects lend an aspect of realism to the story that allows the reader to feel that they are actually following a surgeon in all his activities. The evil officials on both sides of the ocean build the suspense, as Dr. Rawlings struggles to find both him and the truth. This book has interesting characters that make the story come off the page. This is a book for any reader that enjoys a book with enough depth to the story to make you think while keeping you entertained and learning. less
