A short summer reading list

I’m having real hard time coming up with posting ideas/motivation to post. Right now I can’t even pull myself up to make a look book even though I love making outfits. I think this is related to my tiredness caused by stresfull spring. But I guess this is what writers life eventually is sometimes, you got to write even though it feels like you have nothing to say.

Anyway, I was able to grasp the rest of my motivation and inventive braincells to gather together my small reading list for this summer. Maybe with this post and the books I’d finally be able to relax and gather my strenght. Later on I could also do a post to rate the books.

1. Ray Bradbury: The Illustrated Man, 1951.

According to Wikipedia, this is book is a collection of 18 short stories, the main story is around this guy tattooed from head to toe. Sound’s pretty cool doesn’t it?  Bradbury is known for writing science fiction. One of his most famous works is Fahrenheit 451. Originally I found him because they mentioned him in my favourite cop show, Criminal Minds.

2. Eino Leino: Smiling Apollo, 1898

I think it’s good to show some patrianism for time to time especially since I don’t even bother write in my mother tongue. But to be honest, I think this may be more secure way to spread the word of the great Finnish writer, who I’m distantly related to. Smiling Apollo is a part of bigger poem collection written by Leino. The poems are about acceptance and love which makes Leino a pioneer, ahead of his time. Now I notice, that the only English translation is to be found here: Smiling Apollo

3. Henry Miller: Tropic of Cancer, 1934

This one I found on Pinterest, it was on a list of banned books. The book is about a writer who’s having hard time identifying their sexuality. Just a btw, I used “their” because I didn’t want to read any spoilers if the main character is a male or a female. Maybe it does not even matter. In Finnish it doesn’t. We use a unisex pronounce “hän”. Link to the rest of the list: 12 Banned Books…

4. Jack Kerouac: On the Road, 1957

Apparently this book is actually based on Kerouac’s own road trip and also the characters are based on somebody in his life. Honestly I’m such a road trip-type of girl and I love the 50’s so I really have my hopes up for this one…

5. Ian Caldwell & Dustin Thomason: The Rule of Four, 2004

I actually went to get this one today. The story is about four university students trying to solve a mystery around an old book written in Italian. I chose this one to start with because I can’t help my undying love for languages and historic old books.

Hope you all have a great summer and make sure to comment if you have read any of these!
