review 1: I didn't like the start of the book. It is hard for me to change my opinion about a character when he seems so unlikable in the beginning. I did like the portrayal of the police in general. But Benji, so closeted, so sure the world was against him; I'm sure it had a lot to do with his childhood but other than being told his parents were religious and they weren't close there was no background offered. And that was the problem with this book. I never felt like I got to know any of the characters. I'm glad that I messed up and read Polyester Prince first; that one made me smile. Had I read Paid Leave first, I doubt I would have bothered.
review 2: Only made it 16% through and just couldn't read anymore. Couldn't respect Benji at all. He knows the press are
... moreout to write bad reports about the police yet he still sleeps with Charles. I could have forgiven him if it was just once to 'scratch an itch' but he continues knowing it's a bad idea. From reading the blurb I know he's going to be involved in a shooting, and obviously Charles will write another story about the trigger friendly police force. Guess that's what I get for judging a book by it's cover. less

I give up at page 160, the story is boring and I just can't connect with Benji
