Chronic Pain and Opioid Addiction: The cure to the problem

Chronic Pain and Opioid Addiction:  The Cure to the Problem

  • Ligaments hold bones to bones and tendons link muscles to bones
  • Both ligaments and tendons are susceptible to tears and stretching also called a sprain or a wound
  • The lack of blood flow in joints during the wound healing process cause incomplete healing on occasion
  • Incomplete healing often occurs when RICE and anti-inflammatories are used to treat the swelling.
  • Loose joints caused by ligament or tendons that are stretched or partially torn after injury cause pain
  • Stretched out ligaments and tendons do not show up on MRI
  • Would you trust your auto mechanic if he/she used a camera to take a picture of your wheel to guarantee it was not loose?
  • Joints (including spine) do not work correctly when the ligament or tendon is partially stretched or torn. Similar to your car wheel not working correctly when bolts are lose.
  • Stretched or torn ligaments and tendons cause symptoms including pain, chronic swelling, muscle tightness, clicking/popping, radiating pain and numbness/tingling
  • Standard of care treatments which are established by Medicare (Federal Government) and followed by health insurance companies include RICE, anti inflammatories, physical therapy, opioids, cortisone injections and surgery
  • The only treatment that can regenerate ligaments and tendons is prolotherapy injections. PRP is also a form of prolotherapy. Prolo stands for proliferation.  You are proliferating or kick starting your body’s own wound healing response mechanism.
  • Prolotherapy uses the body’s own natural healing response process called wound healing to repair the damaged ligaments and tendons by regenerating new tissue and tightening the ligaments and tendons back to their normal length and thickness. Wound healing is proven science.

  • Prolotherapy studies have shown the placebo (saline injections) have worked just as well as the prolotherapy (sugar water injections).    Saline injections work almost as well as sugar water injections because both create the above wound healing response.  In addition, there is no such thing as perfect double blind study for a procedure and previous studies have been refuted by the millions who would lose their job if prolotherapy was more prevalent.    However, the science of wound healing is not refuted.  Why do you use RICE and anti inlammatories after a ligament sprain unless you are in game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals!!
  • Most people who suffer from whiplash and chronic back pain including Tiger Woods will never be pain free because the cause of their pain is stretched out ligaments and tendons and standard of care treatments do not address stretched out ligaments and tendons as the cause of the pain because health care providers do not have any treatment that will fix this diagnosis. Instead, they diagnose the symptoms like bulging discs, nerves, muscle spasms and headaches and treat those with standard of care treatments.
  • The Mayo clinic and Spalding Rehab (part of Harvard Medical School) performs prolotherapy. The former Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop did prolotherapy and endorsed it. http://injurycaremedical.com/dr-koop/
  • Summary

Our for profit health care system that is run by special interest groups and big pharma and managed by Medicare manufactures opioid addicted people who become permanently  disabled, die of drug overdose and/or commit suicide.  I encourage you to spend a few hours in a doctor’s office who has been doing prolotherapy for over 10 years and prolotherapy injections are 80% or more of their practice.
