review 1: A novel all about second chances and in Mason's case third and fourth and fifth chances. Billie was a really funny character with some weird quarks that were borderline too weird, but I forgave all that. What I couldn't get past was her continued taking of Mason's utter crap that he kept pouring on her. Yes his background is heartbreaking and I'm sure that would definitely make you not want to ever fall in love again, but his handling of the situation was terribly wrong and I'm not sure I would be understanding enough to let his constant hot/cold attitude slide. The whole ending seemed rushed to me too, even though I really wanted this book to end. Mason's whole turn around on thinking his ex-wife was perfection kind of came out of no where and the explanation there was ha... morezy. I've never read anything else by this author, but I might give another chance in the name of second chances.
review 2: It was a fun read and Billie was terrific. Her new boss was a work tyrant that had frightened away 41 Personal Assistants before her and he gave her, her nickname of 42. Many a time she wanted to leave and she understood why she was #42. He was a brutal workhorse. Worked all the time and gave nobody any rest. Billie would have some remark to give him when he’d challenge her and by the time she was finished she may have had one nickname from him, but he had at least 42 from her. He didn’t know what to make of her and eventually they actually became quite close, tho when he proposed what he proposed at first, she definitely wasn’t having it. When she finally got to really know him, for who he was, she determined that she could handle him with all his flaws. It was a good quick read and the characters of Billie and Mason were a treat. Especially Billie who could hold her own around Mason and make his life upside down. If you get a chance to check it out, check it out. You’ll like it. less
