review 1: This fluid biography of a marriage manages to encompass a huge amount of information while never feeling bogged down with details. It focuses on the personal and social life of Franklin and Eleanor, both separately and together. It does something I feel like a lot of biographies try to do but are rarely successful with - it truly humanizes its subjects. It was thoroughly fascinating - and very enjoyable - I listened to it on audio and the narrator, Tavia Gilbert, had a pleasant voice with a good range of emotion.
review 2: How interesting! Their relationship was anything but the norm. It was obviously a relationship (of sorts) that suited their individual needs as people both privately and publicly. It would have been an extremely draining relationship (for ... moreboth) due to what was acceptable for that era and especially with both being in the public arena of American politics.It appears their lives were not lived for themselves but for others. less
