review 1: Good plot, not great writing. Way too much telling, very one dimensional characters, and lord but does it need another pass from an editor. "... four different races that are all prejudice?" "So people in this town were prejudice after all." Really? That's basic grammar. Prejudiced. Anyone should have been able to catch that. Anyway. It gets two stars because the plot held my interest, but the writing needs some more work.
review 2: Not sure what I should say about this book. Maybe my feelings, or lack there of, is due to having just spent a few weeks reading Jean M. Auel's books. Of course this doesn't compare. At the same time, I had a tough time staying interested in the characters and their plight. So knowing it could be within me and not within the book, o
... morer the author, I am giving this four stars instead of the three that I feel I should. In fact, it may very well be excellent and deserve five stars. At least I am invested enough to read the next book in the series. Maybe I will then find the momentum I need to delve deeper into this story.I may have to re-read this later to see if I can fall in love with it. less
