review 1: The book was OK but not one I would tell a friend about. The main character, Charlotte, is married to a much older man - an intellectual who feeds off the "intellectual scene" and doesn't seem able to show affection or love anyone, including his little daughter and his wife. They move from New York City to Wellfleet, Mass. on the coast. Charlotte falls in love with an oyster farmer who meets her emotional needs, but has a less than stellar background. Surrounding this story is a battle with the rich guy next door who wants to shut down oyster farming in the water behind his house, and a legal battle ensues.
review 2: To be completely and utterly honest, I didn't like the book that much. I felt like there was no overall point of the story and I found myself j
... moreust rushing through the story because I got bored with it. I never put a book down without reading it completely, but this definitely would have been one of the ones that I really, very badly wanted to throw out. I am a person that usually likes the books I read, so this is a rare thing. Don't base the choice of whether you read this book based on my review though.. Just take into consideration that it has no change in the status quo and is rather boring. less

So-so. A bit predictable and some of the passages were to detailed and went on and on.
