review 1: The writing was decent - creative in some places, especially when narrated as Yves, the writer. The characters were realistic, and the relatively quick shifts amongst their voices kept me interested. But ultimately, I didn't feel much. The women decide to cheat on their husbands, but we never really understand why. Their lovers see their flaws and love them anyway. The relationships progress. That's about it. But if you're a fan of bittersweet ambiguity and a "c'est la vie" outlook, you might enjoy this a lot more than I did.
review 2: A thought-provoking French novel full of French and French-Jewish pop-culture and anecdotes. My favorite parts included the Jewish anology of the "alternative" as well as main-character Yves' 40th birthday present to Anna as 40 me
... moremories of Anna.I almost felt that the writer was parallel writing about himself as Yves. Could this be a fictionalized narrative of his own life? The story was French and ended in a French way...meaning Tellier was not afraid to end his story in the truth and not as an always-happy-American ending. less
