review 1: I liked this book for two reasons:1. It helped me to see the difficult times as positive moments of growth. 2. I liked the list of possible skills for each age and the short lists of games or toys. This book is not exhaustive in its description of baby development and the parent quotes weren't always interesting. I never planned to use only one book or only one friend or only one resource for child care advice. This book could not be your sole reference, but I did gain something valuable from it which I haven't necessarily gotten from other books which is why I rank this so highly.
review 2: Maybe I'd have appreciated it more if I had read it while the girls were brand new, but frankly I did not have time then! It's an interesting new way to present the typica... morel child development milestones and I appreciate the reframe of challenging baby behaviors as evidence that baby is readying herself to meet those milestones. But it got very repetitive. (In fact I will admit I stopped truly reading and started skimming around the 4th wonder week.). The checklists of emerging skills are not well matched to the ages. I really doubt that at 46 weeks my girls will "sometimes use the potty". This would be a book well-suited to leisurely reading during a first pregnancy, especially for a person who is fairly clueless about what to expect with a typically-developing child. I'm just not that target audience. less
