review 1: This book is simply magical, as much for the storytelling technique as for the story. It's told in a completely unique way, or at least one I've never seen before, that reveals layers, bit by bit, descending deeper into each character with each revelation. Wistful, sad, hopeful, joyful, every emotion clear and resonant as a crystal bell.And the book defies categories. It's women's literature, romantic, inspirational (without being religious), and psychologically true.You've gotta read this book! One of my top of 2014, for sure, and one for my small Keeper Shelf.
review 2: This book was just an okay read for me. I appreciated the difficulty of the trials the main character faced, but I couldn't seem to relate to her method of expressing her grief. Also, by the... more end of the book I was ready to scream if someone had said "one thing," just one more time. I felt like the main character was someone who would have benefited from counseling. Too bad there is such a stigma about that in our society and none of her concerned family ever even suggested it. less
