review 1: In the end, I enjoyed this book. At first, not so much. I really didn't care for Quincy at all for the first 1/3 or so of the book. She seemed just a little bit too hysterical, if there is such a thing after finding a body and being questioned by the police. I wanted to do like in the movies and slap her to slow her down and bring her to her senses. :-) Luckily, she came to her senses on her own and became much more likable. The story line was good, if a bit predictable in the end. I'll probably get the second book if the price is right. A nice, quick read.
review 2: 7/6/13-7/12/13. Steamed: A Maid in LA Mystery by Holly Jacobs (free Kindle version). Quincy Mac is a single mother to three teenage boys, an ex-wife of a Hollywood producer who makes a h
... moreabit of trading in his wives for younger versions, and co-owner of a maid service. While her boys are vacationing with their father, she fills in for one of her maids, only to find a dead body after accidentally cleaning the crime scene. She vows to clear her name - as well as that of someone else who is near and dear to her, often taking tips from favorite television series along the way. Little did she know the investigating detective would prove to be such a delectable distraction from her mission. I thoroughly enjoyed this series! I thought it was neat that the protagonist often referenced crime shows because that is what we now do in real life. Who amongst us hasn't said, "Well, on CSI/Castle/The Closer/etc. the other night, they..." She referenced several favorite television series of mine. And, her tribute to the Trixie Belden fictional series pretty much won me over before I was even halfway through the book. Besides my personal preferences, I found all of the characters to be quite likable and mostly realistic. It was nice to see a healthy, positive relationship between a mother and her children. The pace was good, and the story was compelling. The epilogue was interesting as well. For the most part, this was a “clean” book, rarely – if ever – using profanity and keeping adult content to a minimum. Although there were a few typos in the Kindle version I read, they were not so numerous as to distract from the story. I was thrilled to learn that this will be a series. Ms. Jacobs definitely has a new fan in me! less
